Play With Your Pumpkins

Happy Halloween to you! We had such a good time carving pumpkins this weekend. Our kids are grown ups, out enjoying their own festivities…but we couldn’t resist carving a few gourds for our own enjoyment!

Pumpkin Shenanigans – Getting Spooky Around Here!

Years ago, when we carved Halloween Jack-O-Lanterns with the kids, I was always looking for ways to get more creative with the designs. About the mid-90s, the marketing world introduced carving templates. You know the ones you rip out of the book, transfer onto your pumpkin, and then cut out? Love ’em. It’s a no-fail way to feel artsy!

I had never seen a pumpkin carved with such personality. The book has some great recipes, too. If you get a chance, pick up a copy.

The kids in us had fun moving the pupils around in the eye sockets creating different expression! It’s interesting how simply moving around the eye position changes everything! We laughed out loud – sinister, funny, scared, creepy!

TIP: don’t forget to sprinkle the insides of your pumpkin with cinnamon before lighting the candles. When lit, they’ll smell like pumpkin pie!

Earlier in the day, I anticipated my impending lack of desire to cook, and picked up some Salmon from Costco while I was out. The store near our house has a great selection of heat and eat entrees – e.g. rotisserie chicken, meatloaf and mashers, mac n’cheese, and salmon with pesto butter. It was really easy and full of flavor! I followed the directions exactly, and paired it with some asparagus for a healthy-ish dinner.

Happy Halloween!

I can’t wait to see all the neighborhood kids in their costumes tonight! Candy bowl ready! Pumpkins lit! I hope it doesn’t rain!
